An Evening in Stralsund
A quick stoll through Stralsund
Before taking the morning ferry to Hiddensee, we spent the night in Stralsund, which like Lübeck is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The buildings are very similar in style and both of the cities were in the Hanseatic League. Stralsund was, next to Lübeck, the second most important city in the League and today the cities like to playfully bully each other.
We unfortunately didn't have enough time to visit the Ozeaneum, a new museum dedicated to the underwater life of the northern seas. Coming from the harbor, we waked through a small street which opened onto the market place and were overwhelmed by the site which greeted us. We were not at all prepared for the spectacular city hall building which rose up before us.
