Winter Weekend in Graubünden
A weekend getway in Graubünden
Every year we go away for the first weekend in December. We go to celebrate my husband's birthday and to relax before all the holiday stress begins. We always go somewhere else, but we often return to Graubünden, the largest and easternmost canton in Switzerland. I'm not sure why we do, since Switzerland is beautiful everywhere, but I think it's the wildness and untamedness of this canton that we like. Also, the food is very good and we like the spoken dialect. Listening to the locals speak Romansch is always a special treat for me. I think it's a beautiful language, eventhough I can't understand a word. This year we stayed at the Chesa Salis in Bever, north of St. Moritz. We had hoped for a snowy weekend, but apart from a few patches, it was very dry. The Chesa Salis is a beautiful house that was built in 1590 and lovingly restored in 2003. The restaurant is delicious and the chef has 13 Gault Millau points. The menu consists of regional specialties and most of the products are local.
Bever itself is also a beautiful and quiet village, well worth a visit. Most of the buildings are listed historic buildings, and walking through the streets, it's easy to see why. I've included a selection of windows and some doors I saw, most of them typical of the region. It won't be the last time we'll return.
Engrazia fitg (thank you) to my family for the wonderful gift!
