Franche-Comté in Late Fall
A trip across the border.
Being able to step in a train, travel between 1-3 hours and then get out and be in either Germany, Austria, Italy or France in a huge luxury. So, when my husband says he an a group of cavers will be spending the next weekend caving in France, I don't get a funny look on my face. Instead, I light up and say, oh good- me and the girls can have fun shopping, talking and sitting in cafés!
And that is what we did last November. We dropped off our respective partners and headed off to have some fun. We spent the weekend in the Franche-Comté area, very near where we were for the Easter weekend. We drove to Besançon and spent the day walking around town, laughing, talking and sitting in cafés. Besançon has a beautiful old-town and there were things to photograph around every corner.

The next day we drove around the country side. We had planned to visit an open-air museum and a château, but they were already closed for the winter. But the sun was out and we saw many beautiful things. We especially liked the old village fountains which were used for washing, socializing and drinking. One of the highlights was lunch at the "L'Auberge du Château" in Rahon. The hazelnut crème brûlée was a dream. Lunch was so good, we were almost late getting back to our meeting point to pick up our cavers...
