Hiddensee: A Quiet Island

4 days on the island of Hiddensee.

Hiddensee

And now to the last installment of my trip to the Baltic Sea. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I went to Hiddensee. I've been wanting to go there ever since I went to Rügen, Germany's largest island and right to the east of Hiddensee.

The clocks are slower on Hiddensee. There are no cars and the only way to get around is on foot, by bike or on horseback. Since you can't rush around, you are forced to change gears and slow down. It leaves you rested.

Hiddensee also has a few tricks up it's sleeve: the sun almost always shines. It can be rainy on the mainland and the sun will be shining on Hiddensee. The light is amazing on the island, and it's no surprise that many artists spent much time there.
